GLOSSARY

End-User

[noun]

The term ‘end-user’ is generally used in economics, commerce and sociology to define a person who employs a particular service and/or product after this service/product has been fully developed, marketed, and installed. An ‘end-user’ example for a computer system—such as an eCommerce platform, an interactive website platform or software—is, quite simply, the individual who utilizes it.

However, with the rise of experiential design and a growing focus to build human-centered types of designs, the end user meaning and the end user experience have begun to change.  UX design has evolved to ensure immersive and engaging types of customer experiences. During the product/service concepting and design phases, the characteristics, behaviors, and likes/dislikes of end-users are taken into account. This means that the importance of end users has grown, where these individuals were once simply those who utilized the system, they now have a pivotal role also when building better user experiences that are efficient enough to both engage them meaningfully and grant them end-user support throughout the full life cycle of that service/product.

How To Create A Better End-User Experience

  • Ensure your site is user friendly and accessible. Creating ease of use can help users better navigate your site. This can mean improving your checkout process or adding additional accessibility features, such as optimized alt-text or text-to-speech plugins.
  • Optimize your page speed. This will not only help your rankings but can help to increase you conversion rates.
  • Ensure your content is clear and concise. Copy that is easy to digest allows users to better understand your brand messaging and inspire them to take action.
  • Design your site to be responsive on desktop, mobile and tablet. This will allow users to easily access your website on any device, increasing your site’s visibility. Additionally, at neta we design key pages such as landing pages in 1920, 1366, 1024, 768 and 375 pixel renditions.
  • Most importantly, listen to user feedback. Whether the feedback is regarding potential bugs, new feature requests, or ease of use commentary, user feedback can help to improve your site.

Can a user’s experience really influence sales? Absolutely. There is significant importance which stems from how the end-user browses a website or app, how they explore content throughout the site, and how the UX design helps the user feel more confident in their ability to make a decision. It is fundamental to analyze, interpret and understand end-user behavior and to offer a better end user experience that maximizes conversion funnel touch points in conjunction with other metric indicators. As a digital growth agency, we incorporate all of these elements into our strategies. At neta, 80% of our clientele have prioritized eCommerce strategy and their digital presence as strategic areas of differentiation, which is why we would often utilize ‘end-user’ as a synonym to ‘customer’ and ‘consumer’.
